Joss Whedon is a incredibly imaginative guy; his more recent works have been set in the future, and he has featured a great variety of mythical ideas in his shows/movies. He is an Atheist, I would bet (but can't confirm) that he accepts the theory of evolution; but he he feels that we are alone in our sentience. I quoted him because I found it interesting that he thinks that; I wanted to illustrate another aspect of freethought: it aint dogma!
Maybe 500 years from now we will be life, maybe not. What about a thousand years from now? a billion? What about a billion years ago?
The Universe is too big for there not to be life out there. Or maybe I believe that just because I want there to be other life out there: It would be too lonely if not.
I hope there are sentient beings, and I hope that someday people meet them.
Pooh-Pooh, this guy's universe must be very small.
ReplyDeleteI consider all higher life forms on Earth to be sentient beings, per dictionary definition.
If he means "intelligent beings capable of higher reasoning", I bet he's still very wrong.
